CASE STUDY

Jill lived with a diagnosis of dementia, and her daughter Jacqueline was in the process of applying for a deputyship order to support her mum and manage her finances better.

Jacqueline had completed all of the necessary paperwork, and a court hearing date had been arranged for three days time. Jacqueline called her GP for the umpteenth time to chase the COP3 Mental Capacity assessment she had requested three months before and, at the time, been reassured would be completed.

The GP receptionist advised all was in hand, Jill's GP was on holiday till next week, but it was his priority to have it completed on his return. 4 days after the court hearing.

Jacqueline rang Nellie Supports, upset, stressed and on the verge of tears. Our team worked with Jacqueline to organise an assessment the very same day afternoon via video link. While still worried, Jacqueline grabbed her laptop and went to her mum's house to support with the assessment from a technology standpoint.

The assessment took place without a hitch, and our Social Worker was able to get a digitally signed COP3 sent to Jacqueline the very next morning; with the court of protection accepting digital signatures, this meant that the paperwork was all ready for the court hearing on time.
