We were recently invited to a birthday party and BBQ of a dear friend Gilly Barton at her house. It was after the memory café so about four in the afternoon. I have to say we had an incredibly wonderful time and left about 6.45pm.
You know? It wasn’t until I sat and thought about it today that it really is ages since we did anything like that!! In fact I cant remember the last time we were invited out at that time of day for so very long. Yes we meet friends for Sunday lunch once a month or so and we have meeting after meetings and presentations regular but actually being invited out late afternoon, early evening is something very rare for us, and I am not sure why?
I do know that my sundowning can happen anytime in the afternoon onwards and some days it doesn’t happen at all. Elaine says it’s mostly at around 6pm or later so my evenings are understandably affected, plus the days of us going out clubbing are long gone LOL But I can see any reason why we could not or should not be going out in the early evening.
Have I / we fell into the trap of thinking “Well it could happen any time after 4pm so I don’t want to embarrass myself so don’t go out? OR? And this is more likely, I don’t want to put Elaine through anymore that she has to go through? True it would be easy to blame others and say is it because I have dementia? Is that why the phone has stopped ringing? Or do I blame myself for putting myself in that position and excluding myself from all that goes on after 4pm ??
It’s a difficult one without an easy question, but I thought I would just put it out there for you ??
