Advanced and Enhanced capacity assessments
Most instructions are suited to our standard assessment. Where a complex, high-risk or potentially contested case needs additional evidence, our Advanced and Enhanced services offer different scopes of work. We help you decide what is appropriate.
The question, evidence, report requirements and fee are agreed before instruction. No preferred finding or court outcome is promised.

Our standard assessment is the usual starting point

For most instructions, our standard decision-specific assessment and professional report provide the service needed. Each assessment page explains its own scope and fee. You do not need to select a more extensive service simply because the decision matters to you.
When additional evidence may help
A more complex, high-risk or potentially contested case may benefit from additional assessment work. Tell us about conflicting evidence, a previous assessment, changes in the person’s presentation, the decision to be made and any deadline. We will explain which additional work would be useful and agree the scope before booking.
Advanced and Enhanced describe the work included in our services. They do not promise a preferred conclusion or acceptance by a court or another organisation. A complex or high-risk situation does not automatically require the most extensive service.
Advanced Mental Capacity Assessment
£1,440 including VAT (£1,200 net + £240 VAT). Applicable travel costs are quoted separately.
For complex, high-risk or potentially contested capacity matters where additional cognitive and psychological evidence would help inform the assessment.
- A tailored psychometric evaluation, usually completed remotely.
- An in-person, decision-specific Mental Capacity Assessment on a separate day afterwards.
- A professional assessment report and a plain-English appendix summarising the psychometric findings.
Advanced brings targeted testing together with the decision-specific assessment. We select the evaluation around the evidence needed for the instruction.
Enhanced Mental Capacity Assessment
£4,200 including VAT (£3,500 net + £700 VAT). Applicable travel costs are quoted separately.
An in-depth assessment for complex or potentially contested cases requiring a fuller review of the person’s circumstances and supporting evidence.
- Initial consultation and detailed case review.
- A social care needs assessment exploring support needs, care arrangements and relevant social circumstances.
- Appropriate psychometric and cognitive testing.
- A decision-specific Mental Capacity Assessment.
- A comprehensive report bringing together the background, social context, assessment findings and reasoned conclusions.
Enhanced includes a wider review of the person’s social circumstances and support needs alongside the capacity assessment. Relevant concerns about vulnerability, pressure or influence are considered alongside, and distinguished from, the question of capacity.
Psychometric evaluation for separately quoted assessments
£720 including VAT (£600 net + £120 VAT), in addition to the separately quoted MCA or MCAs. This is the evaluation fee only, rather than a complete capacity assessment package.
Where tailored testing would support several separately agreed capacity assessments, we can scope the evaluation separately. It normally takes place remotely before the MCA, on a separate day; an in-person appointment can be arranged where this better suits the person.
Choosing the appropriate scope
You can start by telling us about the case. Our team will help you identify the assessment question and whether the standard service is sufficient, or whether targeted testing or a fuller review would add useful evidence. The written quote confirms the work, appointments, report, timing and any agreed extras before booking.
Psychometric findings support the decision-specific assessment; they do not determine capacity on their own. Reports are prepared to CPR Part 35 requirements where applicable to the instruction. Advanced and Enhanced appointments and report timescales are agreed for the case.
For a retrospective opinion or desktop critical review, the scope and fee remain specific to that service. A new assessment appointment is not automatically included.
